For a unique eating experience on a London double-decker bus, visit 1923 Taco Bustaurant. Owned by Aaron and Miriam Orr, this “bustaurant” serves modern, gluten-free fusion tacos. The menu features flavors from the American South, Caribbean, Middle East, and Korea, all served on a classic red bus. 1923 offers tacos for lunch and rolled ice cream for dessert, and has outdoor seating.

2. Sam Hill
Sam Hill is a new Ann Arbor restaurant on the west side.
A newcomer to Ann Arbor, as of fall 2023, Sam Hill is a welcoming spot on the west side. It’s perfect for friends and family to gather and stay for a while. The menu includes Upper Peninsula pasties, Mexican queso, and Southern shrimp and grits. Sam Hill has spacious outdoor areas equipped with plenty of seating and hosts live music, stand-up comedy, and various bar games and outdoor activities like cornhole.

3. Peridot

Peridot, opened in October 2023, is a modern cocktail bar that features Vietnamese-inspired small plates and award-winning craft cocktails. The Ann Arbor Observer described it as a cross between the speakeasy-style bar The Last Word and the highly-rated pan-Asian restaurant Pacific Rim. The menu includes summer rolls, papaya salad, banh mi bruschetta, and lettuce wraps with grilled branzino. The cocktail list focuses on rum and gin-forward options that complement the food perfectly.

4. Spiedo

Chef Brad Greenhill’s Spiedo opened its doors in September 2023. This new restaurant occupies the same space where Chef Greenhill’s Takoi first began as a pop-up in 2016. Using just a rotisserie and a griddle, Spiedo offers an innovative menu with spice-heavy flatbread wraps and salads inspired by Italian, Middle Eastern, Mexican, and East Asian flavors. The trendy interior has vibrant colors on each wall. Spiedo is open for lunch, dinner, and features a popular happy hour.

5. Culantro

Culantro opened its doors on North Main Street in Ann Arbor in December 2023. Culantro is in the space previously occupied by The Broken Egg. This is the second location for the Peruvian eatery, which started in downtown Ferndale in 2018. Run by mother-son duo Betty Shuell and Alvaro Herrera, Culantro offers authentic Peruvian cuisine with unique twists on traditional recipes. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, and its first location won Best Latin American Restaurant Metro Detroit 2023.

6. El Limōn

El Limōn opened in late 2022. The flavors of Mexico and Lebanon meet at this casual north-side taqueria. Diners can enjoy tacos or burritos along with a fattoush salad, which is halal-friendly. El Limōn offers interesting fusion dishes like falafel tacos and a jalapeño-infused chicken shawarma burrito. Located in the Plymouth Road Plaza shopping center, it’s a great place to grab takeout or sit for a quick bite. The restaurant also has live music every Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
