As part of our commitment to learn, train, and practice daily, The PiperPartners Team has started a book club. Each book club meeting is led by a different member of the team, and we meet for an hour each week. During the meetings, we discuss what we’ve read and how it applies to each of us.
Currently, we’re reading Resilience: Hard-Won Wisdom for Living a Better Life by Eric Greitens. The book is a series of letters written by Greitens, a Navy SEAL, to a friend who is struggling to find a sense of purpose and adjust to civilian life after being deployed. In each letter, Greitens imparts advice and wisdom upon the friend, referencing both things he’s learned from his own life and many lessons from ancient philosophers.
Unsurprisingly, the book tackles big issues: how to build purpose, confront pain, practice compassion, and craft the stories of our lives. An underlying theme throughout the book is that we all experience hardship and struggle at some point, and with resilience, we can grow stronger as a result of these challenges and lead more fulfilling lives.
We’re right in the middle of the book now, and we’re excited to make the book club a consistent part of our commitment to team building and personal growth.
